You can lose weight the right way or the wrong way. Off course, if you choose the wrong way, you won’t lose any weight long term. In fact, you are going to regain all the pounds you initially lost, plus some more. So please, if you’re going to do it, do it the right way. In this article we will try to show you what to do and what not to do.
About 6 in 10 Americans are overweight, that’s 60% of the United States population. Many of them will go to great efforts to lose weight, but only very few really succeed. Less than 5% achieve long-term success. Obviously, something is not right here? Mainstream diets, as it seems, are not doing especially well. Why is that?
The reason why the majority of traditional diets don’t work is simple – they are so called reduction or starvation diets. Low fat, low carb, and low calorie diets all fall into this category. When starvation is imposed, our bodies deal with it appropriately. The way the body deals with starvation is the core reason why these diets don’t produce any long term results.
Our bodies have good mechanisms to cope with extreme calorie deficits that this diets impose. When you starve, your body goes into so called starvation mode. When this happens it will become energy saving fat-storing machine, trying to survive on as little energy as possible. You know when this happens when you hit the plateau.
It gets even worse when you stop dieting. Your body will still try to store as much fat as possible, because you can’t turn off starvation mode that quickly. This means you will gain weight faster than ever before and you’ll probably end up weighing more that before the diet.
Starvation is definitely not very effective, not to mention unhealthy, way to deal with weight problems. There are much better ways. One method that doesn’t include starving, but produces great results is called calorie shifting.
Calorie shifting works by tricking the metabolism into working fast and burning stored fat reserves. You do that without starving yourself. You eat six proper small meals a day. Off course, no junk food. You are even allowed to have cheat days, when you can eat whatever you want. Easy to follow and it works.
